
Tim Melly

Tim Melly serves as the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of Dakota Wealth, where he is responsible for leading the firm’s investment team and platform. In this capacity, his responsibilities encompass development of investment offerings, strategy oversight, and consulting on portfolio design, asset allocation, security selection, and risk management. Mr. Melly also evaluates portfolio performance, conducts market analysis and research to identify opportunities and trends, and provides the firm’s investment outlooks.
Tim plays an integral role in developing the next-generation talent within Dakota’s investment team. As the leader of the investment team, Tim works together with the firm’s experienced professionals, challenging them and pushing them to improve. Tim collaborates with our advisor teams, providing the firm’s investment perspective. He is also an integral member of Dakota’s leadership team, contributing to organizational vision, strategic initiatives, and team motivation.
Prior to his current role, Tim was the Vice President of Research at Persimmon Capital Management, which was acquired by Dakota in July 2021. In this role, he managed the firm’s mutual fund, a fund of hedge funds portfolio, and bespoke client portfolios. Earlier in his career, Tim co-founded Blue Wave Global Investors, LP, a quantitative long/short equity hedge fund. He also consulted for a FinTech start-up AlphaHedge Capital Partners, where he developed quantitative tools for manager evaluation and risk monitoring. His foundational experience includes serving as Director of Research at a multi-family office, where he developed risk-based portfolios and was responsible for manager due diligence.
Tim is a graduate of Drexel University, holding bachelor’s degrees in both Finance and Economics. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) designation. Tim resides in Philadelphia with his wife Alia and two kids Nadia and Isaiah. He is an avid sports fan and enjoys exploring new cities through visiting museums and local culinary experiences.
